Turkmenistan is expecting bumper cotton crop this year as the season for plucking cotton has began this month.

Last year, the country produced nearly 1.3 million tons of cotton, surpassing the target of 1.05 million tons set for the year.

In view of the harvesting season, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting to take stock of the situation. He expressed dissatisfaction with the extent of usage of agricultural technologies, especially the work of Turkmenobahyzmat association.

He directed the Ministry of Agriculture to quickly fix the existing loopholes and prepare itself to meet the challenges that are likely to arise due to bumper cotton production.
