Continuous decline in cotton price not likely to occur

Continuous decline in the price of cotton is not likely to occur this season as China would have to import cotton.

China's cotton production this season is estimated to be about 6.5 million tons compared to the total actual demand of nearly 10 million tons from the domestic cotton textile industry.

Moreover, the Government has started acquisition of cotton from the open market, and as per policy, it can buy 3 million tons of domestic cotton production.

The months of September and October are traditionally peak season for textile industry in the spot market. Demand for cotton is expected from downstream buyers, who would replenish their exhausted stock during the last six months.
