Azerbaijan's cotton export increases significantly

The export of cotton from Azerbaijan has increased significantly during the month of October. The country exported cotton worth US$ 1.325 million last month, as against its exports worth US$ 174,390 in September, according to the Azerbaijan State Customs Committee (SCC).

After a high export worth US$ 3.7 million seen in March 2011, the country's cotton exports decreased to US$ 2.2 million in April, US$ 2.416 million in May, US$ 1.17 million in June, US$ 1.125 million in July and US$ 747,080 in August. Thus, the country has already exported cotton worth US$ 18.1 million in 2011.

Similarly, Azerbaijan's export of purified cotton fibre during January-October period totaled US$ 4.668 million, as against the exports of US$ 2.498 million during the same period last year, showing a rise of 86.86 percent. The country exported purified cotton fibre worth US$ 1.717 million in March, US$ 206,370 in April, US$ 571,550 in May, US$ 3,000 in June, US$ 161,900 in September and US$ 161,750 in October this year.

Last year, Azerbaijan shipped 3,738.2 tons of cotton worth US$ 5.249 million that accounted for 0.02 percent of the country's total exports of US$ 21.32 billion. The average export price of cotton was US$ 703.33 per ton.
