India lifts curbs on Assam Comilla cotton exports

The government of India has removed restrictions on export of the Assam Comilla variety of cotton [HS Code 52010012] up to a limit of 5,000 bales (1 bale = 170 kg) till September 30, 2012.

This was announced by the government vide a notification issued by the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

Earlier, during the previous cotton season 2010-11 too, DGFT had exempted export of Assam Comilla Cotton up to a limit of 5,000 bales from the cap on export of cotton.

However, such export would require to be registered with DGFT in the current cotton season also. Secondly, exports against registration certificates would need to be completed within a period of 30 days.
