Cotton sowing for the new season has begun in Akhal, Lebap, Balkan and Mary provinces of Turkmenistan.

In these provinces, farmers undertook sowing of cotton seeds after taking blessings from elders, as per the Turkmen tradition.

In the new season, cotton sowing would be undertaken on about 550,000 hectares of cultivable land across the country, and farmers are expected to harvest around 1.109 million tons of cotton.

During the current cotton growing season, special attention will be given to climate and soil characteristics of each region.

Cotton cultivators in some of the provinces are likely to test new varieties of medium staple cotton.
