The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) says that by sowing cotton into wheat and vetch stubble will increase production of cotton to two bales per hectare.

It would also reduce the use of fertilizer considerably from about 106 units of nitrogen to about 60 units.

Farmers will be in a position to save up to $100 per hectare in relation to the fertiliser used, said Nilantha Hulugalle, a DPI soil scientist.
