As per the official data, around 16 million farmers in over 42 districts cultivate cotton in Tanzania.

The current cotton price given to farmers is lower than Sh1,000 per kg and if a price of Sh1,000 per kg is not paid to farmers for their cotton this year, then no cotton will be sold, the MPs said.

They said the current international market price of cotton is low and it does not help farmers to enhance their standard of living. Hence, the Government must revise the cotton price upwards, they added.
