Cotton cultivators in Zambia were told not to burn their cotton crop as the Government is working with all stakeholders to arrive at reasonable prices.

Addressing a rally in Chama, President Michael Sata said his Government will ensure that ginneries would buy cotton at better prices.

He urged the cotton growers in Chama district to not to carry out their threat to burn their harvested cotton in protest against the low prices, as the Government is working on a plan to revive the cotton industry in the country.

Currently, cotton buyers are offering K1,600 per kg, while the farmers are demanding K3,200 per kg, the price fixed during the last marketing season.

The President said his Government will buy cotton cultivated by farmers in Zambia and Malawi to revamp the defunct Mulungushi Textiles.
