China's cotton imports shoot up in June

China imported 476,000 tons of cotton in June, showing a 296.6 percent rise over 120,000 tons of cotton imported in June last year, according to Chinese customs statistics.
 
However, the massive cotton import in June was 5.16 percent less when compared on a month-on-month basis. In May 2012, China imported 501,900 tons of cotton.
 
During September 2011 to June 2012 period, China imported 4.7288 million tons of cotton, registering an increase of 2.5182 million tons or 113.9 percent year-on-year.
 
During the first six months of 2012, China imported a total of 3.0547 million tons of cotton, which is an increase of 1.7289 million tons, or a year-on-year rise of 130.4 percent.
