Intending to promote standardization of cotton among the participating ginning small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and to enhance the competitiveness of the domestic raw cotton in lines with global standards, World Wildlife Fund (WWF-Pakistan) and the Pakistan Cotton Standards Institute (PCSI), functioning under the Ministry of Textile Industry, have agreed to work jointly.

The collaboration would also look at ensuring better returns to cotton growers, ginners, spinners, exporters and the county’s economy, a statement said.
On behalf of their respective organizations, WWF-Pakistan’s Senior Director Programmes, Dr. Ghulam Akbar and PCSI Joint Director Liaquat Ali Khan, would soon ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard.
According to the agreement, the two organizations would carry out activities, mainly aimed at addressing the issues relating to the cotton fibre quality and other related norms, to promote better ginning practices among the country’s cotton ginning SMEs, the statement noted.
The agreement particularly intends to support the activities aimed at enhancing capacity of the ginning industry with regard to adherence to the cotton fibre quality norms.
WWF-Pakistan, the biggest environmental not-for-profit organization of Pakistan, works to stop degradation of natural resources and for their conservation.
Pursuant to the WWF-International’s market transformation initiative, WWF-Pakistan is actively working on several cotton projects under its sustainable agriculture programme, since 1999.
