Cotton exports from the West African country of Ivory Coast increased by over three-fold to 34, 240 tons in July this year compared to exports of 10, 213 tons in July 2011.

In June 2012, the country had exported 30, 611 tons of cotton.

The cumulative cotton exports from January to July this year stood at 210, 559 tons, showing a 228 percent rise over 64,152 tons export of cotton made during the same period last year.

Industry analysts attribute the rise in cotton exports to the ongoing cotton campaign in Ivory Coast.

The resumption of cotton exports from Ivory Coast’s neighbouring countries through the port of Abidjan is also cited as a reason for huge rise in cotton exports.

The shipping operations in Ivory Coast were paralyzed for more than four months last year owing to a post-election conflict.
