China's cotton imports jump in August

In August 2012, China imported 305,546 tons of cotton, registering a 48 percent year-on-year growth, according to the data released by the General Administration of Customs.
 
From January to August this year, China’s cotton imports total 3.76 million tons, which is about 1.69 million tons more than the cotton imported during the corresponding period last year.
 
China is the world’s largest producer, importer and consumer of cotton.
