Cotton exports on the rise to China

Uzbekistan produced 29,000,000 bales as per provisional figures avaiable in 2005.

Demand for Uzbek cotton showed as steady rise as figures indicate that during 2005, Uzbekistan cotton output stood at 5,200,000 bales and sources report that 302652 tons was exported to China in 2005.

China today is a top export destination for Uzbekistan, buying over 30 percent of the total country exports.

Uzbekistan makes up for 11.8 percent of Chinese imports, the second largest origin behind the US.

China's spinning group is the major consumer, which has significantly added to the sharp increase in volume.

Uzbekistan's President Islam Karimov is in Beijing on a state visit where he will meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao to discuss several issues including security and trade relations between the two countries.
