The Uzbekistan Government has approved the modernization and technological re-certification program of Sifat, a state organization with the Cabinet of Ministers of the Central Asian Republic of Uzbekistan.

Sifat provides certification of cotton and wool, and the modernization program is aimed at developing a national system of cotton certification that meets international standards.

The new program, to be implemented in 2013-2017, would ensure integration of Uzbek cotton testing with international system of testing and thus improve the competitiveness of Uzbek cotton in global market.

Under the program, the Government will install new equipments for assessing quality of cotton. These will include high-performance automation HVI systems and equipment that meet international technical parameters.

The Sifat modernization and re-certification program will be financed by Sifat Centre’s own funds received by providing cotton weighing and certifications services.

Uzbekistan exports about three-fourths of nearly 3.5 million tons of raw cotton produced in the country.

In terms of cotton production, Uzbekistan ranks sixth in the world.
