The Ministry of Finance sanctioned the sum for establishment of the said research institute on recommendations of Ministry of Textile Industry, Mr. Kumar said during a Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) meeting.

Establishment of the institute forms a part of the Government’s plan to upgrade around 1,200 cotton ginning factories operating in the country and boost their productivity.

Highlighting the benefits of the new institute, Mr. Kumar said the institute would handle various tasks like upgrading the cotton ginning factories, helping them boost their productivity and imparting training to workers of these factories.

Further, voicing its concern over fall in cotton production in the country, PCCC called on the agricultural scientists to find out the reasons behind this fall and ponder on ways to once again boost the production of the cotton.

In response to the call, the agricultural scientists laid forth outlines of a research programme for 2013-14, which the Committee approved after a due consideration.
