Fabric production trend to continue thru 2006
09 Mar '06
1 min read
Spain's domestic cotton consumption has dipped sharply in 2005.
This was due to additional spindles being withdrawn from production.
Europa Index of Spinning Production (2000=100) states that total spinning output fell to 15.7 percent to a record level of 61.4 percent during 2005.
The weak spinning output is due to sluggishness prevailing in both domestic textile and apparel production.
Production of fabric has declined to 10 percent in 2005 whereas decline in apparel output has been recorded at 18.8 percent.
Textile sector is expected to remain under pressure resulting into continual decline of cotton consumption in 2006 as well.
