Guangdong Province imported 15000 tons of cotton worth almost US $19.53 million in January 2006, recording a 52.5 percent and 66.4 percent rise, respectively, over 2005.
The contracts made with the EU, the US is expected to improve China's textile exports, and hence, the demand for cotton is bound to rise steadily.
Cotton imports shipped directly to warehouses at the free trade zones in Guangdong increased 840 percent from the same month last year.
