After importing large quantities of cotton in 2011 and 2012, China’s cotton imports this year are likely to fall, according to analysts.

In 2011, China imported 3.365 million tons of cotton. This figure reached 5.1377 million tons last year.

During the first quarter of the current year, China imported a total of 1.3651 million tons of cotton, representing a decrease of 202,200 tons or approximately 12.9 percent year-on-year, according to Chinese customs statistics.

Owing to substantial increase in cotton imports last year, China’s cotton imports are likely to fall to about 3.50 million tons this year, according to analysts.
