Bollgard cotton growers have a festive season as they earned Rs2,100 crore more income based on 3.125 million acreage penetration for the 2005 crop.
According an agricultural survey in 9 states and interview of 4,799 farmers, Bollgard cotton has been benifiting to farmers getting better yield for last four consecutive years.
64 percent or 4.16 quintals per acre increase in Bollgard yields compared with conventional cotton.
Farmers net profit grew Rs6,727 per acre or more than 118 percent and to reap more yield of Bollgard cotton farmers don't have to use much pesticides as they were using for conventional cotton.
Survey indicates that there has been reduction of an average 2.4 pesticide use against bollworm that translates to a 25 percent reduction in total pesticides spend.
