Mozambican cotton exports fall 65% short of target in Q1

Cotton exports from the African nation of Mozambique were about 65 percent lower than the initial projection during the first three months of 2013, according to the data released by the Mozambican Cotton Institute (IAM).
 
During the first quarter, Mozambique exported 24,300 tons of cotton, compared to an initial projection of 70,000 tons, macauhub reported.
 
In terms of value, Mozambique earned US$ 38 million during January to March this year, compared to projections of SU$ 109 million.
 
For 2013, Mozambique has set target of 135,000 tons for cotton exports, but the target is not likely to be reached in view of IAM data.
 
In 2012, Mozambique exported 184,000 tons of cotton.
