Almost 70 lakh bales of cotton from Gujarat have entered markets and about 10-15 lakh more bales are expected to reach it within next two months.
With this, the total cotton output in the state is expected to reach over 85 lakh bales this year.
However, sources report that with the restricted supply of quality cotton variety, the prices are bound to climb.
Approximate price of Shanker-4 category of Bt – cotton that ranged between Rs17,000-18,000 has now gone up to about Rs18,900 per candy.
Over 40 lakh bales have been consumed by textile groups from South India.
Total cotton production of Gujarat in 2005 had reached around 65 lakh bales which is expected to grow by almost 20 percent this year.
