Textile imports have gone adversely affecting local cotton which has lost favor among local spinners and textile makers.

Last year, Guangdong customs reported that cotton imports reached 0.2 million tons.

Cotton growing area in the country was about 5 million square kilometers, while cotton production was about 9 million tons against the demand of around 12 million tons, last year.

This year, even though the prices of imported cotton are high, significant increase in cotton imports is noticed from countries like US, Australia and India.
