Cotton ginning industry is in the grip of Environment Protection Agency (EPA) of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) as 12 ginning factories in Dabgari Garden area are found polluting air through discharge of dust particles.

Taking actions against these factories, EPA Director General, Hammad Awais Agha said that factories were issued Environment Protection Order (EPO) under Section 16 (1) of Pakistan Environment Protection Act 1997 and were directed to design machines that control dust particle discharge.

Agha also said that cotton machines of factories had been working for more than 30 years in Dabgari Garden area without any dust control system, which results in severe air pollution for the locality.

He added that EPA had also provided technical assistance to the owners of ginning factories for control of dust particle emission.
