China's cotton imports rebound in July 2014

The imports of cotton by China rebounded in July 2014, along with a rise in average import price, compared to June 2014.
 
According to customs statistics, China imported 280,300 tons of cotton in July, which is an increase of 62,100 tons or 28.4 percent over June imports. Compared to July 2013, however, cotton imports were down 17 percent.
 
The average import price of cotton in July 2014 was US$ 2,183/ton, registering an increase of $51 or 2.4 percent over the previous’ month’s average price. However, the average import price fell 0.3 percent on a year-on-year basis.
 
From January to July 2014, China’s total cotton imports stood at 1.675 million tons, down 39.1 percent year-on-year.
 
During the first 11 months of the ongoing Chinese cotton season that began on September 1, 2013, China’s overall cotton imports declined by 32.1 percent year-on-year to 2.799 million tons, the data showed.
