Cotton-sowing area in Punjab reaches 6.371mln acres

Cotton-sowing land has been gone up Punjab to 6.371 million acres, which is 0.8 percent more than the previous growing area of 6.321 million acres, said Muhammad Islam Gill, Director, Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI).
The exceeded land area is fixed for Kharif 2006.
Sindh's share in cotton-sowing is about two million acres and in terms of production, it is around 23 percent. A total of 13.82 million bales output target has been fixed for the cotton crop 2006-07.
He said the province-wise sowing target has been fixed: Punjab 2.56 million hectares, Sindh 0.64 million hectares, Balochistan 0.04 million hectares and NWFP 0.01 million hectares.
Province-wise production target for next cotton crop is: Punjab 10.58 million bales, Sindh 3.13 million bales, Balochistan 0.10 million bales and NWFP 0.01 million bales.
