Uzbekistan has harvested 636,067 tons cotton in first five months this year, posting year–on–year surge of 4.3 percent.
From the total yield, Cotton Planting Association accounted for 630,689 tons, recorded a rise of 4.5 percent.
Meanwhile, contributions of private sector saw a decline of 11.6 percent to 5,378 tons.
In 2005, the country produced 3.74 million tons of cotton and 1.118 million tons of cotton yarn, registering year–on–year increase of 6 percent and 21.6 percent, respectively.
The country plans an output of 3.6 million tons of cotton in 2006.
