Government of China is in a state of confusion as on one hand clothing enterprises insist imports of cotton and on the other, cotton growers of the country oppose this demand.
Import cost of cotton is RMB12000 per ton and domestic cotton price is pegged at about RMB14000 per ton.
Therefore, cotton imports will bring lots of profit for textile and clothing trade, but cotton growers will be at loss.
After July, China will be short of 1.7 million tons of cotton, and to overcome this situation, Chinese textile enterprises ask to import cotton.
However, industry experts recommend that Government should protect interest of domestic cotton enterprisers and cotton growers.
