Zimbabwe earned more than $102 million from cotton exports compared to $60 million last year.

Cotton has emerged as essential and export-booster commodity, informed sources.

Total cotton production is estimated between 270,000 and 300,000 tons for 2005-06 whereas country has exported 80,000 tons of cotton this year.

Cotton production could have gone much higher if cowboy merchants had actively participated in production process.

Government has also decided to form regulatory framework for cotton industry to enhance performance.
