Cotton export rises by leaps & bounds

Zimbabwe's earnings from cotton export shot up US $102 million this year compared to $60 million, last year. In volume terms, 80,000 tons of cootn was shipped from the estimated national output of 270,000-300,000 tons.

About 90 percent of cotton produced is exported to markets in Europe and Asia with African markets just receiving a small pie. Zimbabwe is renowned as a producer of one of the finest cotton in the world.

Export earnings are likely to rise this year with some inventory.
