Government's Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has issued instruction to levy cotton standardization fee of Rs5 per bale at ginning stage.

After the notification, ginning factories are required to assess and deposit the amount with Pakistan Cotton Standards Institute (PCSI).

The levy has been implied for the facilitation of cotton standardization system for the production of standard and clean cotton which will bring quality of cotton at par with international market which will produce the real value of cotton.

The amount collected will also be used to strengthen PCSI for starting network of High Volume Instrumental fibre testing laboratories and human resource development for cotton classification and gradation.

Textile ministry had launched Clean Cotton Programme through 23 ginning factories and around 1,000 clean cotton bales have already been produced in three ginning factories.

Government has targeted production of 100,000 clean cotton bales for the current season and the 20 remaining ginning factories will start operations once they receive seed cotton from farms.
