MWANZA Textile Mills (MTM) Limited plans to establish a knitting mill to capture the world market especially the US, which is worth trillion dollars, informed the Managing Director, Amin Ladhan to US Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, David Mathayo David who was on a visit here.
Mill would be producing apparels which fall under the gambit of US African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) providing them chance to export apparels and artifacts free of duty.
Ladhan also unveiled plans of selling quality cotton in the international market in the future and informed that the mill privatized four years ago had been rehabilitated by 70 percent.
On his part David asked to stop the cheap imports in the wake of trade liberalization by making quality products which are sold at competitive prices. He said that by making superior products local producers can avoid the technical trade barriers implied by developed nations and enjoy benefits under AGOA.
The Minister also suggested the MTM management to help the cotton farmers by giving them with seed, inputs and extension services which will give them better prices against the world market prices.
