Xinjiang is having a bumper cotton harvest this year with an average lint yield of 90.3 kg per Chinese mu, up 2.79 kg over 2005, marking the largest record in the county's history.

The additional income per peasant is expected to be over 300 Yuan this year, making a total annual income to reach 4000 Yuan per peasant.

Cotton planting area was about 540,000 mu this year, taking 70 percent of the county's cultivatable land.

The main reason for cotton bumper this year was to have Extra-long Staple (ELS) cotton area expanded to 500,000 mu by making good use of the exclusive resources of light, heat and water in the county, meanwhile they strengthened scientific management on cotton farmland and broadly extended the application of advanced technology.

Moreover, agricultural technicians offered thorough guidance in cotton production according to cotton growing conditions.
