As most of the Italian spinners close their units during August on account of traditional summer vacations, cotton consumption falls to its lowest level for the year. Cotton-spinning output fell by 19.1 percent in August, 2005 but the output index increased by 23n percent in August, 2006.

It is a pleasant coincidence as textile and garment sector has strengthened during the same period. Spinners have informed that there has been an increase in demand of traditional yarn. This has caught them off guard as they scamper for very tight inventories of yarn and increasing the yarn output.

Cotton fabric output has improved by 10.7 percent in August while in apparel, production of knit/crocheted pullovers surged 30 percent in August. Total apparel output increased by 5.1 percent.
