Cotton consumption increases in Russian Federation

Consumption of cotton by Russian Federation showed positive trend in May with cotton yarn production registering 4.2 percent growth at 20,000 tons compared to same period previous year.

For last three to four months, yarn output has increased .6 percent to 100, 400 tons and even better result came in cotton fabric production in May with production expanding 6.3 percent to 169 million square meters. During January-May, cotton fabric production was .8 percent at 883 million square meters.

The Russian Federation is a prominent importer of both cotton yarn and fabric as well. Cotton yarn imports from August, 2005 to July, 2006 period reached 35, 087 tons, a jump of 30 percent from previous year. Even apparel sector in Russia has tasted healthy local demand as well.
