Cotton production in Xinjiang to outpace 1mn tons in 2006

Cotton production by Xinjiang will outpace 1 million tons in 2006, with lint cotton yield expected at 1.05 million tons, setting a new record in overall quantity, according to a recent meeting of Xinjiang corps.

It is learnt that the areas contributed to beet and cotton obviously increased this year. Cotton production has further concentrated towards areas with predominance.

The development of ELS cotton and color cotton is stable. Hybridized cotton area expanded from 20,000 Chinese mu (15 mu equals one hectare) of last season to 251,200 mu this year. Currently cotton-procuring is stabilized, with price close to the level of last year.
