Textile sector puts yarn suppliers in a spot

The revival of Italian textile sector has caught domestic markets off guard as they face shortage of basic yarns which has ultimately resulted in affecting cotton yarn imports. Import of cotton yarn increased by 32.8 percent to 10,410 tons compared to previous year.

Cotton yarn imports for January to July period reached 78, 321 tons, an increase of 11.8 percent. On the other hand, exports have declined by six percent to 4,059 tons in July.

Cotton yarn was imported from countries like Turkey, India, Pakistan, Egypt and China. While other half of the exports was to EU-15 region and the rest to Central and Eastern Europe.
