A recently revealed statistics of MOT showed that cotton imports turnover into the country during the early nine months 2006 climbed up to 136.6 thousand tones, worth US $164.1 million, rose 13.8 percent and 24.1 percent, respectively.

As regard to supplying markets in the period, India remained leading supplier, as figures from the country accounted for 20.1 percent of whole cotton imports turnover.
