Brazil sold 1.3 million tons of cotton, about 60 percent of its total cotton yield for 2006, in local and international market, Safras & Mercado Agriculture Consultancy Office revealed.
There is not much difference in volume of cotton compared to previous year. Higher cotton sales were recorded this year due to rise in demand and global market prices, company sources informed.
In 2006, Brazil forecast import of cotton from the country at 120,000 tons and approximately 80,000 to 100,000 tons for 2007 season.
Country's export are forecast between 520,000-530,000 tons this year, an increment of 370,000 tons over 2005 season.
