Natural calamity unable to dwarf Georgia cotton production

Despite the heat and drought in June and July, the cotton growers in Georgia are in celebrating mood due to abundant rainfall in August and are producing adequate yields.
Earlier, boll weevil the pest, used to devastate the cotton field and the farmers had to look upon some other sources of dependence.
With the eradication of the dreaded boll weevil, cotton has become Georgia's top bracket crop. The state produces on an average of US $500 to $700 million of cotton annually, depending on the market.
Texas is the United States largest cotton growing state. It is anticipated to produce about 5.7 million bales this year, followed by Arkansas with nearly 2.6 million bales, Mississippi with around 2.15 million bales and Georgia with an expectation of 2.12 million cotton bales.
