Leading cotton producer of United States, Texas has come under the claws of draught.

Despite the dry spell, Texas is back on track to harvest 5.7 million bales, 32 percent less compared to 2005.

Texas yield in November was 651 pounds per acre, which was higher from last months estimate of 620 pounds. But it was quite low from last year's 724 pounds per acre. But this year's yield can be expressed as strong despite the poor weather conditions.

In 2005 the state has produced about 8.5 million bales, around 7 million bales more than the previous year.

Improved yields are expected from the states of Georgia, Louisiana. Growers in Arkansas and Tennessee were expected to have record-high production.

The cotton production in US is about 798 pounds per acre, which is lower from 831 pounds last year.
