Admin lapses in co-operative societies displease cotton farmers

Kenya's cotton sector has been facing severe crises since long on account of a plethora of difficulties which have tumbled it down gradually. Maladministration by co-operative societies, which had been assigned to support this sector, is the root of all these problems.
Negligence of cotton sector by earlier Governments, unfavourable climate and staggering markets have also been prime causes which hindered the sector's growth.
Many farmers, who were under impression that the future of this industry was uncertain, have given up cotton farming and taken to alternative agro sectors with growth opportunities.
Stores functioning as collection points at different locations are being wrecked by unhappy farmers because there has been heavy downfall in cotton production.
Protests by MPs for enactment of a Cotton Bill in Parliament have brought a sense of relief to worried farmers. Government and private sectors are making efforts to revive cotton farming in Nyanza.
