Though Maharashtra Government has announced an aid of Rs1500 per hectare for cotton farmers during winter session of Legislative Assembly in Nagpur, farmers are becoming impatient day by day over the delay of receiving the relief.

They are also expressing disappointment over the meagre amount of aid announced by the Government, when the expectations are much higher.

Because of this, farmers are committing suicide in Vidarbha region, where number reached 25 in five days.

About 1,000 farmers have blocked the roads and the Ghatanji purchase centre of Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has stopped the purchase of cotton.

These incidents forced the Government to speed up the purchase of cotton from farmers.

The state cotton federation is purchasing 400 cartloads and 20 tractor-loads of cotton daily.
