Textile and apparel sector seems to be recovering as demand for imports is rising significantly.
During the January-September 2006 period cotton yarn imports reached around 96,086.17 tons, representing year-on-year rise of over 8 percent.
In September alone the imports stood at 13,190.6 tons.
Turkey ranked as the top supplier with 20,456.4 tons and 18 percent increase over the same period last year.
India followed with 19,079.4 tons at 5 percent year-on-year rise and Syria took the third position with a surge of 48.9 to account for almost 9,709.8 tons.
Other major suppliers included China and Pakistan.
Meanwhile, cotton yarn exports slowed down almost 4 percent to reach around 38,957 tons during the January-September period.
Though exports to Central and Eastern Europe grew slightly, that to 15 group of countries dropped around 4.5 percent.
