Worm & disease resistant GM cotton strains

The latest innovation of 55 new genetically modified (GM) cotton strain, is being cultivated in an area of 100 million mu.

These newly developed strains produce high yield that is resistant to worms, herbicides and diseases.

Liu Yanhua, Vice Minister, Science and Technology, informed that economic returns from GM cotton will reach around US $2.1 billion or 16.8 billion yuan.

China has already put GM cotton strains into commercial use.

Government has invested around $63.75 million or 510 million yuan in GM plant research.
