Cotton exports likely to be increased

After exporting over 2.5 million cotton bales to China last year, cotton growers in Gujarat are ready to cater to the demand of other countries of the world.

Cotton farmers of Gujarat are liklely to add France as major importer in their order books. According to a market survey, businessmen from France are interested in importing at least 2 lakh high-quality bales from cotton growing districts including Surendranagar.

Official sources of the Agriculture Department of the state informed the media that cotton export has been increasing every year and this year it is estimated to touch 4.5 million bales.

Briefing the media, Agriculture Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma said that cotton growers of Surendranagar were contacted by business delegates of France.

Chudasma also informed that this year per hectare production of cotton is expected to be 750 kg compared to 625 kg last year.

The state exported total 3.5 million cotton bales with China imported the major chunk (2.5 million) and Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia purchased the balance.
