On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, five more cotton farmers committed suicide in 24 hours at Vidarbha.
An NGO alleged that cotton federation opened only limited procurement centers this year leading farmers to sell crop at Rs100 per quintal less to private traders compared to federation.
With five more deaths, toll has reached to 33 this month over 112 cotton growers in last month and 107 in November last year.
Since June 2005, about 1272 cotton farmers have committed suicide in the region.
