Cotton denim sector in doldrums

Cotton denim fabric industry experienced a loss of market share in the US last year, though it continued to have strong grip on North American Free Trade Area (NAFTA) and Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) consumers.

The sector also registered over 20 percent year-on-year drop in output during September - November, 2006.

Slowdown in production has adversely affected country's cotton consumption.

However, after declining for two months, denim fabric price did pick up slightly, improving around 2.5 percent.
