Paraná farmers have taken up production of organic cotton for more than past couple of years and the business is growing.
The cultivators from this Brazilian state meet with European manufacturers and dealers who are interested in ecological products.
Farmers believe that the growing awareness among consumers is also acting a major force to increase demand and inturn drawing more and more traders to this harmless business.
Several organizations come together for this process. For instance, NGOs in some states convert part of the produce into garments, which are then shipped to traders and retailers.
Around 15 kilograms of organic cottonseeds is sold at around US $18-20, much higher than that of conventional product, and the maintenance cost is also lower.
The average productivity in the region is 1,500 kilograms of organic cottonseed per hectare.
