Domestic cotton market in low spirits

Cotton market in Iran is in low spirits as domestic cotton is perishing in warehouses and customers are importing cotton from outside.

Rise in the prices of herbicides and fertilizers has increased the production cost and this has resulted into aversion to domestic cotton in customers.

Around 22,000 tons of home-grown cotton is in warehouses and the country had to import more than 40,000 tons of cotton in the past Iranian year (ended March 20).

Cotton is imported through borders like Sarakhs, according to the head of a cotton plant in northeastern Iran.
