Farmers to sow Bt cotton with GEAC approval

After getting a nod from Supreme Court, the Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) in its 76th meeting, has approved the commercial cultivation of 53 Bt cotton during current sowing season.

In this kharif season, farmers in north India will try out 18 new Bt cotton hybrids and in central parts, 35 new Bt cotton hybrids will be used by farmers.

The GEAC has also restored its permission for commercial cultivation of Mech-12 Bt in central India and Mech-184 Bt for both central and south India.
